I love how movies are made and because Pearl Harbor is good from a technical level, I can't hate it too bad, i'll occasionally watch a few sequences from it once in a while but that's about it.

The story is interesting enough on its own, Pearl Harbor didn't need some love interest in it at all, nor did Titanic for that matter but for the way that story was made, it worked. Otherwise I agree 100%, the love story was an attempt to cash in on Titanic's success, the problem is that a lot of people who experienced Pearl Harbor were still alive and are still alive today, and in some ways I could see it as being a disrespectful to have such an important piece of history be reduced to a cliched love story. The action sequences of course are done very well (the one thing Michael Bay really does excel at) a mix of real and practical effects and CGI, it's all done very well. The score by Hans Zimmer is really great. That being said, there are a lot of things I actually really like about it from a technical stand point. Like, I would rather watch Transformers 2 over this.Īs far as story and script, yeah Pearl Harbor is nothing special. I know we have to have characters that see the events unfold but god these characters were just so blah.Īnd yeah, I know cashing in on the Titanic success makes sense from a business perspective, but the end result is so.bad.

We also have that love story involving Ben Affleck, Josh Harnett, and Kate Beckinsale where they have misunderstandings and a love triangle and it’s all just boring. It just feels like cheap emotional manipulation. Like when they have Japanese planes shooting at hospitals or FDR standing out of his wheelchair to make some grandiose point.

There’s just something about it here that rubs me the wrong way. Now I can stomach a lot of historical inaccuracies in movies, like Braveheart or Gladiator.

This movie just leaves a bad taste in my mouth due to its historical inaccuracies and it’s obvious attempt to cash-in on the success of Titanic. The actual Pearl Harbor attack scene is pretty impressive from a visual standpoint. It’s not like Pearl Harbor looks bad or has bad sequences. I know it’s cliche to hate on Michael Bay movies but this is the only movie of his I actually have distain for.
